ABOUT 108 WING CHUN

Martial Arts classes at 108 Wing Chun are currently held in the Bromley & Sidcup areas of Kent

Our classes are small “closed door” private groups to ensure that the quality of tuition and level of one-to-one training is of the upmost.

Traditionally wing chun was only ever taught in very small private groups known as “close door” and was surrounded by secrecy being part of the culture of Chinese secret societies.

Sifu Paul has insured the continuation of these traditional values from his Sifu too modern day as a direct descendant in the lineage from grandmaster Yip Man.

Paul’s qualifications are somewhat unique in that he is one of only very few wing chun Masters to also have a full  instructor grade from the Inosanto academy of martial arts in Los Angeles USA.

This is really unique in the local area for  the quality of lineage and instructional value offered by 108 Wing Chun not only in terms of Kung Fu but also Jeet Kune Do and Kali/Silat.

Again, a reason why we keep the classes to a semi private format to ensure that each individual can receive instruction tailor-made to accommodate a particular persons interests, physical and psychological attributes, experience and personality.

This ensures that the learning experience is optimised and accelerated for each individual’s best possible training experience.

ABOUT THE ARTS WE TEACH

Wing Chun Kung Fu

A street fighting system from China and Hong Kong made recently famous by the yip man movies previously the legendary Bruce Lee who originally trained in wing chun under yip man himself. Wing chun is a system that incorporates simultaneous attack and defence and his famous for its close range, employing hand strikes, trapping, elbows and low line kicks.

Although these are all hallmarks of Yip Man Wing Chun we also teach and train the older system of wing chun from Foshan in China and specifically Gulau village.

This Gulau wing chun is the Art famed by the legend and grand master Leung Jaan and passed down to us through sifu Joseph Lee through Lee Shing.

JKD - Jun Fan Gung Fu

Jeet Kune Do - literally “the Way of the intercepting fist“ this Art and philosophy was created and developed by the late great Bruce Lee. Sifu Paul has been certified as a full instructor in JKD by the world renowned Guru Dan Inosanto Paul has been a student of the inosanto academy for over 30 years.

To put this achievement into perspective, currently less than 10 full instructors in Europe.

Jeet Kune Do is an art that allows the individual to research their own experience and to “ absorb what is useful is specifically their own.“ Again, this enables a very unique and personalised training experience and in which the student can pursue his or her unique interests and abilities including experience of previous martial arts.

Pencak Silat and Maphalindo Silat -

We teach the very rare and unique martial arts that are indigenous to Indonesia and particularly west Java and also a mixed blend of Malaysian Filipino and Indonesian Silat developments by Guro Inosanto.

Silat is a very visually appealing martial art that is highly steeped in the culture and history of Indonesia which also has a highly practical self defence application (Bela Diri) - The art encompasses a myriad of unique and distinctive, stylistic techniques clothing striking ( Pukulan ) and kicking ( Kaki ), pressure points and control and restraint ( tok tok ), inside fighting ( Subundhar ) and outside fighting ( Chikalong ) , weaponry of various types both bladed and impact ( Sebatan) , breathing and meditative exercises ( Nampon ). , the infamous and deadly Tiger Style ( Hari Mau ) which incorporates locks and throws as well as a sophisticated ground fighting system.

Other subsystems include the monkey style or monkey hand ( Palmonyet ) and the Badui system ( literally outlawed ) as well as The mother Art Chimande and the father Art Rikasan ( Bone Breaking ).

Most recently removed systems have gained some popular awareness in movies such as “the raid“ and taken.

The movement and stylistic technicalities remain unique to the Indonesian martial arts and as such still rare in the United Kingdom and Europe.

Qigong (often spelt Chi Kung, æ°£åŠŸ)

Is a powerful type of health exercise, which has been practised for centuries by millions of Chinese people. It is based on repetitions of very precise sets of movements, specifically designed to benefit health on many different levels.

Qigong is easy to learn and enjoyable to do. Even a few minutes of practise can have an invigorating and rejuvenating effect. Regular practice brings about a deep strengthening effect for the whole body and its various systems (nervous, digestive, respiratory, skeleton-muscular, hormonal, gynaecological, etc). Its ability to help in healing a large variety of chronic and acute injuries and illnesses has been the subject of various research programmes led by the Chinese medical authorities.

The aim of Qigong is to promote the movement of Qi (energy) in the body; this is done by opening certain gates and stretching and twisting energy channels. A key point in Qigong practice is relaxation and deep breathing, both of which are prerequisites to allow Qi to flow.

Some Qigong movements are very gentle, others more vigorous. Some movements are very large and expansive, others are more subtle, almost imperceptible. All are different and have a very specific effect on body and mind. The deeper one practises, the more one can understand the purpose of each movement, allowing the Qigong practice to become ever more enjoyable.

Feedback from past and current students shows that, with a little bit of regular practice, Qigong can have a powerful effect on mind, body and spirit. Reported benefits have included increased general health and well being, reduced levels of stress, and a brighter and more balanced outlook on life's possibilities.

Qigong can be practised either as a discipline in its own right, or as a perfect complement to your Wing Chun training.

The Chi Gung that I practice and teach is authentic Lee Shing lineage and I have studied these techniques direct from Sifu Joseph Lee & Also from Sifu Francis Fong.
